The Miller Seed Farm puts down roots in Bath, Ontario
The Miller family, originally Mueller, emigrated from New York with other Loyalists during the American Revolution. As the sign by the road proudly proclaims, Miller Seed Farm has been farming in Bath since 1784. The Mackinnons settled in the Madoc area and linked with the Millers through marriage shortly after. Pictured above is one of the original deeds to the land, signed in 1802.

Tractors run in the family
Peter Mackinnon returns home and becomes the 6th generation to take on the family farm.
1949
Mackinnon feels the need, the need for seed
The farm makes an important pivot and puts a larger emphasis on seed cleaning and distribution. As a result, this part of the business is still alive and well today in 2023.
1963
Celebrating 200 Years
Peter and Diane proudly celebrate becoming a bicentennial farm, recognizing that the farm has been owned and operated by the same family continuously for 200 years.
1984
The Boys Are Back in Town
The Mackinnon Brothers, Ivan (left) and Dan (right), move home with plans of taking over the family farm -- becoming the 8th generation to do so since 1784.
2011
The Mackinnon Brothers Brewing Company is Born
After linking up with their cousin, Ben, and good friend, Andrew, The Mackinnon Brothers open the doors and become one of the very first craft breweries in the Kingston area.
2012
Our First Brew Crosses County Lines
Our flagship beer, Crosscut Canadian Ale, officially hits the market with our very first listings in Kingston, Ontario.
2014
Welcome Back to the Farm
The first annual Back to the Farm beer & musical festival launches in August 2015. In just 5 years, this exciting event would grow from roughly 500 attendees to more than 5000.
2015
The Harvest Ale brings new meaning to Home-Grown
Mackinnon Brothers Brewing Co. proudly becomes the first Canadian brewery in modern times to grow 100% of the ingredients for a beer on one farm.
2018
Building from the ground up
Construction on our signature big red barn breaks ground, ultimately allowing production to increase more than five fold.
2019
The Old Barn re-opens its doors
Wedding bells start ringing at the farm as we transform our century-old barn into a uniquely charming event space.
2021
Mackinnon Goes Live at the Grandstand
With the official launch of our concert series, Live at the Grandstand, Mackinnon Brothers becomes a new hub for live music in the Kingston and surrounding area.
